Liberal Democrats in Cheltenham run riot in local elections

Liberal Democrats in Cheltenham are celebrating following the results of the local elections.
On May 2nd Cheltenham went to the polls to elect its representatives to the Borough Council. The final results were: Liberal Democrats 36 seats, Green Party 3 seats and there is one Independent. For the first time ever, no Conservative councillors were elected in Cheltenham.

Liberal Democrat leader on Cheltenham Borough Council, Rowena Hay, said: “I am proud of all of our candidates. They work hard all year round, listening to people and their concerns. We are grateful to the people of Cheltenham for putting their trust in us once again.”

This result is a potential echo for the general election, where Lib Dem candidate Max Wilkinson will be fighting to win back the parliamentary seat from the Conservatives.
Max said: “Rishi Sunak needs to give the country the election it so desperately wants and needs. The longer this appalling government stumbles on, the worse it is for the NHS, people’s living standards and our environment.”
