Local home care organisation, Care at Home, celebrated its 30th anniversary of caring for people in and around Cheltenham recently.
Care At Home has cared for thousands of Cheltenham residents who need a bit of extra support to maintain their independence, since it was founded by Cecile Whitmore in 1993 from her flat in Cheltenham.
As the first private care agency in Cheltenham, the aim of the company was to provide care for people in their own homes. Originally established to offer private care packages, as it grew, Care At Home went on to offer 24-hour care and to work closely with the local social services.
After 10 years of running Care At Home, Cecile retired and Care At Home was purchased by Holmleigh Care Homes and the office moved to Cheltenham Film Studios with Sue Bamford as Care Manager. Both Care at Home and Holmleigh are now part of the wider Iris Care Group, one of the country’s leading independent social care providers.
Sarah Quinney, Care at Home’s Registered Manager, explained: “Care at Home has thrived for 30 years, and still operates as it always has done, offering a high level of service and consistency of care for clients.
“The ethos that Cecile had when she established Care At Home is still the ethos that drives the organisation today and it aligns perfectly with Iris Care Group’s belief in the importance of person-centred care.”
Care at Home has a small, dedicated team of 10 staff many of whom have been with the company for a number of years and have built close relationships with the people they support. They can offer a wide variety of services from helping with personal care and taking medications, to accompanying people on shopping trips or helping with everyday chores.
The quality of the support they offer was recognised recently when they won two awards in the prestigious national Stars of Social Care Awards.
To celebrate their awards and their anniversary they welcomed colleagues past and present to a birthday bash at their Cheltenham offices. Everyone enjoyed the catch-up, reminiscing, and swapping stories.
