Bring colour to Cheltenham

The Cheltenham Post is launching a new community campaign to identify parts of the town that could benefit from a splash of colour next spring.
We are asking readers to nominate neglected green spaces, drab gateways, footpaths, communal areas and other suitable locations where bulbs, wildflowers or pollinator-friendly planting could make a real difference.
The first step is to hear directly from local people, the residents who know their neighbourhoods best and can point out places where a little care, colour and community pride could help lift an area.

The Cheltenham Post will work alongside Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucestershire Highways as the campaign develops. Any projects involving public land will need to be considered carefully, with health and safety, suitable planting locations and grass-cutting schedules taken into account.
Paul Baker said: “I am delighted to support this community initiative from the Cheltenham Post and will do what I can to help bring some more colour and nature back to our communities.
“Both Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucestershire County Council have done much to support wild flowers and nature with wild flower planting in many of our parks, gardens and along highway verges.”

At this stage, we are simply inviting ideas, but we hope the best suggestions can lead to practical action and a brighter Cheltenham next spring.
If you own a garden, frontage, business premises or other private land, we would also love to see what you are doing yourself. A few bulbs planted now could create a real splash of colour in the months ahead, while wildflowers can provide valuable support for bees, butterflies and other wildlife.
We want to hear about your projects, too. Send us your before-and-after photographs, ideas and planting stories. Whether it is a small front garden, a business entrance, a community space or a much-loved patch of land, your efforts could inspire others to get involved.
We would also love to hear from local businesses, gardeners, nurseries and community groups who may have seeds, bulbs or suitable planting materials they would be willing to donate to the campaign.

Every contribution, large or small, could help bring a little more colour to Cheltenham next spring.
Where in Cheltenham could benefit from more colour?
Email your suggestions, including the location and why you think it would make a difference, to info@cheltenhampost.co.uk with the subject line “Bring Colour to Cheltenham.” Photographs are very welcome.
With the right planning and a bit of local pride, we hope to help make Cheltenham even more colourful next spring.
